This online session on May 10 brought together 7 young people from Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, and Papua New Guinea for an interactive discussion on climate justice and its particular impact on Pacific Island communities. The program covered key themes including rising sea levels, extreme weather events, indigenous rights, and the importance of youth advocacy and community-led solutions.
I am glad to report that participation was excellent. Youth engaged openly and enthusiastically, sharing personal experiences and thoughtful reflections on what we, as Christians and as people of the Pacific, are called to do in response to the climate crisis. The conversation highlighted our shared responsibility to educate, advocate, and collaborate across our nations for a greater good.
What stood out most was the genuine passion and awareness among the participants. Seeing young people from three different Pacific nations come together — learning from one another and committing to action — was both encouraging and inspiring.
The gathering has strengthened our resolve to continue creating spaces where Pacific youth can grow in their understanding of climate justice and step forward as advocates for their communities.
